Chief Executive Officer
As CEO of Groupware Technology, Mike Thompson provides the leadership and vision essential for propelling company-wide success. His cross-functional skill-set, innate business savvy and real-world understanding enables him to provide the creativity and strategy needed to build and grow a successful organization.
With well over a decade of industry experience, Mike spends much of his time managing all phases of the business process. Starting from the ground up, he has gained extensive experience and an overall respect for all organizational platforms. Mike is responsible for setting the vision, developing the strategy and managing the execution of corporate initiatives and goals. He is actively involved in managing and developing relationships and strategic alliances with vendors, partners and end-users. He has been recognized for his work in improving operational efficiencies to enhance the end-user experience and overall satisfaction, and has proven his ability to increase profitable annual revenues year over year. Mike has built the foundation for Groupware to continue its unprecedented growth and success.
Mike sits on several Advisory Boards and has been recognized by the industry for his thought leadership in the Channel. He is also active in sharing his experiences with fellow entrepreneurs, as well as mentoring new talent. He is an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award Nominee (2010) and Finalist (2011), has authored several publications and sits on the Board of the Northern California Chapter of The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California and an MBA, graduating with honors, from Regis University.

Chief Revenue Officer
As Chief Revenue Officer, Scott Sutter is focused on increasing sales through Groupware Technology’s differentiated value services in both existing and new customers. He achieves this through strategic leadership of the Sales, Marketing and Pre-Sales Engineering teams as well as leveraging his 20+ years’ experience in the IT space.
Scott has a proven track record of elevating the level of collaboration and synergy among internal teams to help them deliver extraordinary solutions which solve our customers’ business needs. He has helped create a culture that empowers employees to go the extra mile to exceed customer expectations. In addition, his experience with large-scale service engagements, his competitive nature and his passion for service have enabled him to build top-notch sales, technical and customer support teams.
Previous to this role, Scott held numerous roles within the organization including most recently, Executive Vice President. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo.
President and Chief Operating Officer
As Groupware Technology’s President and COO, Tony leads the delivery of all operational aspects of the business, bringing strategic vision and leadership to both internal operations and customer facing professional services. Though focused on developing repeatable processes to help scale the business, he refuses to sacrifice on the flexibility and “get it done” attitude that have endeared Groupware to their customers.
Under Tony’s leadership, Groupware has built a world-class integration services practice that helps customers design, test and deploy new infrastructure. One of the primary offerings of the Integration practice is Rack and Roll which designs, builds, configures and delivers fully integrated racks of infrastructure. These offerings help customers realize increased profitability by getting investments “live-to-site” more rapidly than traditional methods.
As a principal in the business, Tony looks to promote a culture which embraces Groupware’s core values of customer service, excellence, fun and giving back. Tony also takes an active role in mentoring and coaching through the tagline he conceived: “We Answer the Call.” Tony received his Bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo.
Vice President of Sales
As Groupware Technology’s Vice President of Sales, John is responsible for sales team leadership, strategic sales and customer acquisitions. John has over fifteen years of sales experience in IT, including NetApp and has been instrumental in delivering profitable growth and building strong relationships with enterprise customers as well as channel partners. His extensive knowledge of enterprise technology—along with his commitment to customer service—helps customers fully leverage new technology and Groupware’s services capabilities in order to advance their business objectives. John graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Vice President of Sales
As Groupware Technology’s Vice President of Sales for Named Accounts, Dawn leads a team that is responsible for customer satisfaction and sales execution within Groupware’s strategic accounts. A San Jose, CA native, Dawn is a twenty year veteran of the Information Technology industry with a proven record of sales success. Prior to her role at Groupware, she held sales roles at Hitachi Data Systems, Arcscale and Dell, continuously exceeding sales targets. She has an unwavering commitment to ensuring her customers’ success and delivering the best solutions to meet their business challenges. Her expertise in fostering long term business relationships with customers and partners is a cornerstone of her and Groupware’s success. Dawn graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a minor in Psychology from University of California at Davis.
Vice President of Operations
As Vice President of Operations, Josh Avila oversees key business functions by establishing and maintaining policies and procedures for all departments. With 15 years of management experience, Josh brings strong leadership to Groupware with a reputation for developing solid, hardworking teams. He is responsible for ensuring Groupware is easy for customers to do business with by creating and maintaining operational efficiencies, both domestically and internationally. Josh attended Foothill College and West Valley College in California.
Vice President of Engineering
As the Groupware Vice President of Engineering, Ed is responsible for the Pre-Sales Engineering team. His focus is on the development and strategic direction of the engineering organization to deliver innovative and unique solutions for our customers. A 20-year IT industry veteran, he has demonstrated his ability to help customers achieve results while providing thought leadership on the most effective ways to leverage technology.
Prior to his current role as a VP of Engineering, Ed was the Practice Manager for Cloud Solutions with extensive expertise in the design and deployment of cloud solutions. Ed is a well-known advocate and educator for the IPv6 protocol and is a featured speaker at networking and IT conferences around the world. He authored Practical IPv6 for Windows Administrators from Apress and has also authored several IPv6 courses for Pluralsight. Ed is the co-chair of the California IPv6 Task Force and has been actively involved with IPv6 for well over a decade. VP of Solutions and Alliances
As the Groupware Vice President of Solutions & Alliances, Steve is responsible for bringing new solutions to market and the overall profitable growth of business with our strategic technology partners. With over thirty years of IT and technology experience, Steve has held multiple executive leadership positions in Systems Engineering, Professional Services and Sales. In addition to the solution provider channel, Steve has customer IT and product development experience that spans many years running large data centers for a global oil company, an IT Director for a pharmaceutical company, to being a principal in a handheld and wireless application software startup. Multiple times in his career, Steve has successfully navigated through mergers and acquisitions and brought together teams from different backgrounds and business cultures. Steve holds a Bachelors in Business Management from Holy Names University in Oakland, CA.
Senior Director of Finance
Stacy Thompson, Groupware’s Senior Director of Finance, is responsible for financial management and planning—overseeing the design and execution of the company’s financial policies and procedures. In accordance with the company’s growth and future goals, Stacy conducts resource planning for the future as well as managing the accounting department, banking and credit facilities. Her leadership has been critical to the company’s ability to maintain profitability while also financing strategic investments throughout Groupware’s history of consistent and rapid growth.
Director of Marketing
Samara, the Director of Marketing, works closely with members of the management, sales and communications team to create, plan and fully execute our marketing strategy to achieve overall corporate goals and objectives for all locations nationwide. She is responsible for evangelizing the Groupware brand, building marketing relations, communications as well as cultivating opportunities for new and existing customers.
She works closely with sales management and partners to promote solutions to increase Groupware’s market share with key manufacturers such as AWS, Cisco, Dell, HP, Microsoft, NetApp and Oracle as well as partners in emerging technologies. Samara brings a unique blend of creative, operational and vendor relationship skills; highly detail oriented, capable of juggling multiple projects with excellent results and able to think strategically while executing tactically against strategy and plans. Samara brings over 15 years experience in marketing within the technology industry. She earned her BA from California State University at Monterey Bay.
Jeremy Morris, Groupware Sales Manager, specializes in providing customers with the design, procurement, testing and integration services of leading IT solutions. Through his relentless dedication to service, he has a long tenure of sales success with helping customers in solving strategic business problems through technology insights. Jeremy has taken on a key role in mentoring members of the sales team to build strong relationships with customers and partners. Jeremy attended San Jose State University where he majored in Business Finance.
Inside Sales Manager
In her role as Inside Sales Manager, Renata is responsible for developing and implementing sales methodologies and processes which support the needs of customers and facilitate the attainment of Groupware revenue goals. Renata oversees the sales operations and purchasing functions and serves as a liaison among Groupware system engineers, subcontractors and manufacturer reps. As a valuable IT sales veteran, she is instrumental in facilitating collaboration among sales, engineering and operations teams to help meet customer requirements while also helping to hire and mentor inside sales representatives. Renata graduated from San Jose State University with a BS in International Business.
Practice Manager Integration/Rack & Roll
Greg is the Groupware Practice Manager for Integration which includes Integration Services, our Rack and Roll Practice and our Contract Manufacturing Program. He brings 22 years of experience in the data center environment and has a breadth of knowledge spanning servers, storage and security. Greg manages a highly skilled Integration team who are responsible for configuring individual systems to completely integrated racks which are data center ready for deployment. These systems can also be fully deployed in order to simplify and accelerate the delivery of compute resources for our customers. The Integration Practice provides end to end services from documentation to burn in testing to system and asset information gathering. Greg earned his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
Practice Manager Networking & Security
Vinay oversees the delivery of the Groupware Network and Security Practice, including pre-sales and post-sales service activities. He has more than 15 years of consulting experience, specializing in the design and architecture of networking and security solutions for medium and large enterprises. During his career, Vinay has achieved high-level certifications with Cisco, Juniper, VMware and Microsoft while also gaining extensive project management experience. His high-level experience in the design and integration of complex networking solutions has proven to be extremely valuable to his customers and to the teams of project managers and engineers that he manages. Vinay earned his MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Management and his BS in Engineering/Electronics from Bangalore University.
Practice Manager Microsoft & Virtualization
As the Microsoft & Virtualization Practice Manager, Chris has designed and implemented highly-available, redundant, scalable and secure IT infrastructures for the past 18 years, ranging from small networks to very large networks with over 150,000 end users. During his career, he has held many technical consulting roles including engineering manager, technical lead, project manager and team member with responsibility for all project lifecycles phases—design, proof-of-concept, implementation, migration and support. His experience spans many different verticals including biotech, education, financial, government, high tech, insurance, manufacturing, healthcare and sciences. Chris attended the University of Massachusetts at Boston and the California State University at Fresno where he majored in Accounting.
