Cisco Live 2019 Celebrates A Milestone

June 18, 2019 — Cisco Live, Cisco’s annual customer and partner conference, just took place in sunny San Diego, CA last week. This year also marked the 30th anniversary of the conference, which was first called Networkers when it was launched in 1990.

With a theme this year of “You Make Possible,” an opening keynote from CEO Chuck Robbins focused on the role of technology today versus 30 years ago. As he noted, everything revolves around technology, with technology basically even at the core of personal relationships now:

“ Think about how things have changed and the point is how critical technology has become to the world in general and frankly how important it’s become to all of us. Technology actually sits in the middle of our personal relationships. We communicate through technology, there was this crazy time way back where we used to speak to each other. It was an amazing time. Now we text, we WeChat, we WhatsApp, we do all sorts of things. But it’s changed everything.”

Cisco Live also featured over 1,000 sessions from thought leadership keynotes to technical training and 300 partner exhibitors. The event this year attracted nearly 30,000 of Cisco’s top partners and customers, as well as analysts and media.

Something For Everyone

At center of Cisco Live was the World of Solutions, where attendees could learn about the latest and greatest from Cisco as well as its partners in the Partner Villages. Partner Villages were divvied up in key areas including Cisco IoT Connected Communities, Collaboration, DevNet, Digital Building, Investments and Security, all of which abound with subject matter experts providing attendees with info and insights in their specific technology categories.

An interactive hub in the World of Solutions was Cisco Showcase portal, where attendees could learn more about Cisco’s portfolio of end-to-end solutions and see live demos, as well as see, touch and feel Cisco’s latest and greatest products.

There was also a Think Tank, a Solutions Theater, the Engagement Center networking hub, as well as a VR and Gaming Lounge and much more. Basically something for every attendee to revel in.

Personal Highlights from A Groupware Manager

Our Engineering Manager Pooja Aniker was one of several members of our engineering team to made the trek to Cisco Live. Among her numerous personal highlights included:

  • Cisco Partner Xperience—Cisco’s by-invite only partner program was a two-day experience enabling select top partners such as Groupware to connect with Cisco executives and tech industry thought leaders on solving the biggest customer challenges of today. Roundtables and 1:1 sessions made this “Xperience” invaluable for sharing thoughts and ideas and getting immediate feedback as well as additional ideas.
  • Cisco Giving Back— According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, San Diego County has the fourth highest homeless population in the U.S. At Cisco Live 2019, the Social Impact Zone activities were designed to deliver to nonprofits aiding San Diego’s homeless. There were numerous sessions that attendees could sign up for to volunteer for hands-on activities such as assembling meal kits, family food packs, hygiene kits, clothing packs, building furniture and making blankets.
  • CCIE Party—No tech convention is bereft of its parties and celebrations amongst its intense tech sessions and Cisco Live is no exception! Pooja particularly enjoyed the CCIE party, due to its spectacular location at the San Diego Air and Space Museum. Amidst vintage planes and space artifacts, Pooja noted how great it was to reconnect with old colleagues she hadn’t seen in years as well as network aplenty with engineers in her field.

Cisco Live somehow manages to get bigger and better every year. With Cisco Live in 2020 slated to take place in the ultimate convention city of Las Vegas, our team is already looking forward to making next year’s trek!
