Groupware Technology: Supporting Cystic Fibrosis Research And “Giving Back” Is One of Our Core Values

Campbell, CA, May 8, 2017 – May is National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month and Groupware Technology has been aware of the disease for some time now. The IT solutions provider has been a supporter of CF research for many years and participated regularly in numerous initiatives to find a cure for the deadly disease.

Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that impacts the digestive and respiratory systems and occurs in approximately one in 3,500 live births. About 30,000 children and young adults in the United States and 70,000 around the world are afflicted with the illness. And although they exhibit no symptoms, more than 10 million people carry the defective gene.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world’s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis. It funds more CF research than any other organization, and nearly every CF drug available today was made possible because of Foundation support. When the CF Foundation was established in 1955, most children with CF did not live past elementary school. Due in large part to the Foundation’s aggressive investments in innovative research and comprehensive care, many people with CF today are living into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

In addition to Groupware’s annual monetary donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Groupware CEO Mike Thompson is also on the Foundation’s Northern California Board of Directors. He is a sponsor of the Foundation’s yearly Breath of Life Gala, a black-tie dinner and auction to raise funds for CF research. He has previously been honored at the Gala for his outstanding contribution to industry and innovation.

A large contingent of Groupware employees participate in the foundation’s Great Strides Walkathon as well. Great Strides is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest and most successful national fundraising event, with walks in over 600 cities each year. This year, the Groupware team will walk in the San Jose Great Strides event on May 21.

“Supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a cause that is near and dear to Groupware and an integral component of one of our core values, which is ‘giving back’ to the community,” said Thompson. “Thanks to the tremendous efforts of the Foundation, we have seen great advances in fighting CF, with those who are afflicted with the disease now seeing extended lives as well as better quality of life.”

Groupware also grants each of its employees a paid day off for community service every year and matches employee charitable donations up to $250.

“Our team gets a great sense of satisfaction and pride in participating in community endeavors,” noted Thompson. “As a successful tech solutions leader, it’s important that Groupware also sets an example to be a leader in service to those who are less fortunate than us.”
